                                                                PARYS

What a day it's been!! I had to take an old roll-top ball and claw bath to Parys to be re-enamelled. It had a missing foot, so after 2 weeks of searching the net and making many calls to businesses in Johannesburg (who weren't interested in helping me), I finally found people in Parys who are still keen to do business and give excellent service!! I'm soooo disappointed with customer care and service in Johannesburg that I've decided to stick to the 'small towns' instead. People are prepared to bend over backwards to help you and give you the best they have to offer. I found Elizabeth (an absolute angel) from "Re-enamelling Experts" who will have the bath done for me. She even offered one of her employees - Phillip - to go with and direct me to "Parys Gietery" / Foundry, where they will cast me another foot for the bath! How wonderful is that?

So, pics of Elizabeth and the bath will also be appearing on one of my posts, soon.
I also plan on sharing my experience at the foundry with you as soon as i have all the info gathered together. I want to give you the basic process coupled with the photographs, so they can make sense.

Anyway, I also spent a few hours with some of our friends who own antique shops there. The first one is Deon from Oaktree Junction. We have purchased some exquisite pieces of furniture from him and like the rest, he's always willing to accommodate you and will bend over backwards to give you the best prices. Nothing is too much trouble for  Deon, Roland and his brother Jan. All thorough gentlemen!

They also have a miniature Museum alongside the shop which houses stories and valuable pieces of history dating back to the Anglo Boer War.

Please do yourself a favour and pay them a visit! You can spend hours browsing around his shop and never tire of the beauty and value of their pieces of furniture, crockery, jewellry, silverware, paintings, porcelain, dinky toys, tin plate and mementos. An absolute treat!

ENJOY.......
